We’re Alive, I Swear!

Apologies for the lack of posts here lately but we’ve been knee-deep in work and prepping for our upcoming trip back to the US. We’re both very excited to see friends and family again after 6+ months abroad but packing and heading off for nearly 2 months is also a little intimidating, as far as taking care of any and all loose ends here in Gozo.

We head off on May 25 for London, for a quick overnight stay then off to Vegas (via Detroit) on May 26; we’ll be there until July 17 when we hop a plane back to London, with a week in New Mexico in the middle as well as possibly a few quick ventures here and there.

Vegas, baby, Vegas!

The Vegas stay is another work/holiday trip, as we’ll be covering the World Series of Poker for various websites (Shuffle Up and Venti and Pokerlistings, as well as hopefully a few other clients) but also making a real effort to have fun and enjoy Vegas as well.

We used to love to go on vacation to Vegas when we first met but my freelance work — writing articles and updates from poker events as well as photos and videos — sucked some of the joy out of that, as for the last five years I’ve been in Vegas for a solid month or more working 16-18 hour days, with Sarah visiting most years for part of that time but not much room in my work schedule for a lot of together time or random sightseeing fun.

My schedule is a lot more flexible and wide open this year, though, so we’re hoping to do a lot more typical Vegas sightseeing stuff. Plus Sarah gets to buy a brand spanking new iPad. And a new laptop. Me, I get some Twizzlers. Sweet, sweet Twizzlers.

Saints for sale in Victoria Gozo

We’re leaving ourselves some wriggle room on the return depending on how ready we are to get back to our peaceful quiet home in Gozo after all the Vegas madness, but we may stay over a bit in the general area and see Stonehenge and Wales and some other sights before winging out way back home to Gozo from London.

I’ll miss our daily routine here in Gozo, as with the nicer weather and just being more settled and comfortable in general it’s been a nice month or so since our return from the Namibia/Vienna trip.

Gozo definitely isn’t splashy or sexy and you’d be bored out of your skull if your idea of an awesome holiday is hitting up clubs every night but it’s very laid back and very easy, with each day quietly slipping into the next.

But it’s also “different” enough that we still encounter interesting stuff and new things just walking around Victoria and some of the back streets and winding alleys.

Below are some photos Sarah took during a typical day out and about in Victoria, as far as a slice of daily life here in Gozo.
